Sister Dulce Social Organization (Salvador-BA)

This international renowned Organization built one of the largest hospitals in Latin America. It has more than 1.000 beds fully dedicated to the poorest population. In the first half of 1990’s, SM was contracted by the Organization and it implemented a three year improving program.

This institution operates with quality indexes that are better than those of many of its peers of the private segment. This fact makes the board of Directors, the Council Committee and all employees very proud of their jobs.

The Institution became a gold standard for many other hospitals. The upcoming experiences are examples of business plan alignment, supply chain and information connection improvement and best practice replications inspired in this first successful experience.

Ibotirama Regional Hospital (Ibotirama-BA)

It was the first public-private partnership enterprise launched. The contract object included the full operation of the facility (clinical and non clinical services). The contract was signed through public bid.

Despite the long distance from the capital the hospital operation was a success since the beginning. The hospital has 50 beds, it is a general hospital with emergency room and it was designed to serve 150.000 people.

Eládio Lasserre Hospital (Salvador-BA)

It is a Public-Private Partnership enterprise. The contract object included the full operation of the facility (clinical and non clinical services). The contract was signed through public bid.

In 1996 the hospital had 50 beds. It is a general hospital with emergency room and it was designed to serve 400.000 people

In December, 2009, SM signed a contract, through public bid, to project, to build and to equip 100 new beds, and to operate the whole facility system. It was an innovative and challenging contract. SM did all these tasks in 6 months, a record mark.

The building indexes such as m2 per bed and cost per bed became a new benchmark for the Government

Professor Carvalho Luz Hospital (Salvador-BA)

The hospital’s inauguration was in May, 1997. It is a Public-Private Partnership enterprise. The contract object included the full operation of the facility (clinical and non clinical services).

The hospital has 84 beds and it was designed to attend patient with long length of stay diseases. The hospital offers also a home care service.

It was the first public hospital in Brazil to be fully certified by the Bureau Veritas Quality International from London.

The hospital was reformed by the Municipal Government in September, 1998. It was designed to attend a population of 30.000 people. It has 30 beds.

Martagão Gesteira Hospital – “Child Hospital” (Salvador-BA)

In the end of 1997, Bahia State Government decided to finance the operation of this not for profit hospital to re-establish its health care services. In past years the Martagão Gesteira Hospital used to be the most important pediatric hospital that attended the poorest children of the State but it had bankrupted.

Recommended by the Bahia State Government, in January, 1998, SM was contracted by the hospital controllers to accomplish the government plan. Since the beginning, the contract goals were achieved and the Company also implemented new special education programs for the mothers to prevent some pediatric diseases.

After visiting the hospital the Brazilian Institute of Nuclear Quality (IBQN) developed protocols to work as a orientation document for other private not for profit hospitals which were planning to get ahead of the same situation of re-building its economics and activities.

Luis Eduardo Magalhães Base Hospital (Itabuna-BA)

The Hospital was built by the Municipal Government and controlled by a Foundation. SM developed the Health Care Project and initiated its operation in November, 1998. It was a successful enterprise which was submitted to external specialized survey company to make a poll among clients, employees and suppliers in order to realize the quality of the service.

There are 204 beds (regular admission: 150; intensive care unit: 16; emergency observation beds: 36). The hospital began with a work force if only 321 people which ranked the hospital as one of the best relation workers per bed.

The Hospital was well evaluated also as a high complexity unit with low costs.

  • a) The poll revealed that 92% of the clients approved the hospital service;
  • b) The hospital had the financial support of the State Government;
  • c) In August, 2000, The State Health Secretary asked the Federal Health Ministry to register the Hospital as a reference for emergency care in the South of Bahia;
  • d) The State Commission of Medical Residency and the National Medical Residency approved a project to transform the Hospital in a reference for General Surgery Residency;
  • e) The State Medical School nominated the Hospital as a School Unit;
  • f) 50% of the admissions are from habitants of other cities than that of the hospital;
  • g) The neurosurgery service attends people also from the capital of the State.

The Hospital was ranked as one of the best general public hospitals of the State and the Country.

Congressman Luis Eduardo Magalhães Hospital (Porto seguro-BA)

This Hospital is along with the Porto Seguro Airport is one of the most important investments to improve the tourism in the region that is one of the most visited region of the Country. The building was financed not only by the State Government but also by the Federal Government. The inauguration was in 1998.

It is a Public-Private Partnership enterprise. The contract object included the full operation of the facility (clinical and non clinical services).

The hospital has 116 regular beds and 16 intensive care beds. It is a general acute hospital with emergency room. The hospital was designed to serve a nearby population of 90.000 habitants and an additional population of tourists. In high season the total amount of people can reach 200.000. for that reason the hospital become a major investment for a proper touristic structure of the region assuring a emergency care service with a modern and well equipped facility. The unit offered also organs and tissue implants including implants to the cardiac system.

The hospital is positively evaluated by the local habitants and foreigners from other states and abroad.
